Maxen 1759

Today is the anniversary of this battle.

Wincanton 1688

Today is the anniversary of this encounter in the Glorious Revolution. (Photo of the Troop by John Finnerty. )
The Wincanton Skirmish occurred on 20 November 1688 during the Glorious Revolution. A small patrol of the English Army led by the Irish officer Patrick Sarsfield, clashed with a detachment of the invading Dutch Army in the town of Wincanton in Somerset. It was one of the few notable actions fought during the campaign which has sometimes acquired the name the "bloodless revolution".[1]

Pendraken League of Augsburg 10mm

So regarding refighting 1688 then this range of excellent miniatures are probably the most popular scale that's not 28mm. I really fancy having a go at painting some.

Sarsfield

Patrick Sarsfield, 1st Earl of Lucan (ca. 1660 – 21 August 1693), was an Irish Jacobite and soldier, belonging to an Anglo-Norman family long settled in Ireland.[1]

Williamite Wars Redcoat

A group now defunct recreated the troops of 1686-90. More images of the Willaimite wars here

What If 1688?

James II
Arquebusier Magazine Vol 35, 4
Noticed there's an article in this issue's Arquebusier - journal of the Pike and Shot society on the subject of which I have often mused on that is what would have happened if the army of James II had met William of Orange's forces in battle? Detailed analysis of both sides plus a scenario. Sounds good.
William lands at Torbay 5th November
Just found an online article on refighting 1688 in 10mm
There was a skirmish in Wincanton in 1688 - we reenacted it in 1988. There also was a skirmish at Reading.

Anyone know this image?

Found on the web. No idea what it's from but it's interesting. Michael Paradowski reckons it might be from  distincte du jeu du drapeau, de la pique, de la pertuisane...
Stop press! Its from 1673. David Ledoyen found the whole book its here
Deutliche Beschreibung Unterschiedener Fahnen-Lectionen : In Acht Spiel eingetheilet/ Nebst dem Piquen-Spiel/ Pertuisan und halben Piquen/ oder Jägerstock ... / Johann Georg Pascha. - [Electronic ed.]. - Hall in Sachsen : Oelschlegel, [1673]

Grolle 2017 by Bob van den Berg

Grolle 2017 photos by Jordi Bru

Jordi Bru photography
By all accounts this siege in the Netherlands was a very successful event. Great news and there was a sizeable contingent from various UK 17thc societies. There's a lot of really good photos. These are by the talented lensman Jordi Bru. I will try to get permissions but if you go on Facebook you'll find plenty. Be nice to think this might be the end to wigwam bam style of pike fighting in the UK. ECW reenactment in the UK needs exposure like this to other ways of doing things - they tend to be a little ossified and this sort of event gives participants a taste of a different flavour. People came from all over Europe and further (one guy came from Florida) and all mixed in and fought safely and convincingly.

Ловкость рук, Ваше Величество!

Sleight of hand, Your Majesty! Or it's German title Die gestohlene Schlacht.
Thanks to Andrey for this information. This is a comedy film from 1972 that was originally a GDR movie using the captured film props from the Nazi Frederick the Great movies. It's apparently terrible but have a look if you have a mind.

@pikeandshot

My Facebook page Thirty years war reenactment is nearly at 1000 likes so I thought I'd promote it a bit. Its covering war between 1600 -1660 so that includes the 80 years war, English Civil war, and of course 30YW. I don't claim to be an expert on this era but there's enough interest for a non-Anglocentric English language site. Simply go on Facebook and search @pikeandshot.
